Tips To Keep Your Car Running SmoothlyDo you want your car to be running in top-notch condition? Below are given a few car maintenance tips which you can perform yourself. Follow these suggestions diligently if you want your car to run smoothly and not give you any problems.

1. Engine oil - Oil is a lubricant which reduces friction between parts of the engine. It also assists in heat dispersion. Engine oil absorbs heat that is produced in the engine combustion chambers, thus preventing overheating. Oil also prevents rusting, corrosion and damage of essential engine parts. Since oil is so important for the healthy functioning of the engine, you should take care to regularly check the oil level. Remember to top up with the correct grade of oil as specified by the manufacturer. Do not exceed the maximum recommended level when topping up.

2. Tyres - Tyre care is also essential for vehicle safety. Correctly maintained tyres can improve mileage and extend the tyre life. Correctly maintained tyres are important for vehicle safety while driving at higher speeds on highways. Regularly check tyre inflation, specially when going on

What Makes a Car Overheat and Avoiding OverheatingUnderstanding the operation of an engine cooling system and the function of the various cooling system parts will give you the answers to what makes a car overheat and will help give you important maintenance tips on avoiding overheating.

The water pump which is usually driven by the fan belt or the timing belt when the engine is running circulates the coolant (water) around and through the different cooling system parts and engine components.

At first start-up when the engine is cold the thermostat remains closed as this stops coolant going to the radiator so the engine can reach optimum temperature faster. After the engine has reached an optimum temperature usually 80 to 90 degrees Celsius the thermostat can open and allow heated coolant to flow through the radiator which is usually located at the front of the vehicle. The radiators function is to transfer excess coolant heat to the air flowing through the cooling fins of the radiator.

Learn Driving Shifting GearsWith the wide manufacturing of cars with automatic transmission nowadays, it seems a bit unnecessary to know the process of shifting gears in a car. Little people would be keen to know the technique to drive a car having manual transmission. However if you are a car enthusiast, then a skill like this is a must-have. Knowing the techniques of shifting gears will come in handy when it comes to renting a car on vacation. Many rental cars have manual transmission and are cheaper as compared to those with automatic transmission. Follow the fairly simple directions.

Directions
In the cars that have manual transmission, the first gear when engaged allows to speed up from 10 to 15 mph. If there is a need to increase the speed, then the gear has to be shifted into the second one. It is believed as a versatile gear because the car can be driven at a moderate speed up to 25 mph. If the traffic is moving very slow, the brakes get some relief by keeping the car engaged in second gear.

It is obvious that the faster

THE IMPORTANCE OF OIL CHANGES.

I currently own an automotive service center and auto parts store and I can never stress enough to customers how important oil changes are, especially in cars nowadays. I've seen too many times customers who neglect to keep their oil changed regularly and it ends up costing them a fortune. Oil changes are the life of your engine! Most vehicles nowadays have overhead cams and they need a lot more oil pressure to pump the oil to the top of the engine to lubricate critical parts. The oil ports in the block and the cylinder heads are quite a bit smaller than older style overhead valve engines. Therfore, the oil needs to be clean at all times to prevent sludging and stopping up the oil ports. Once the ports are stopped up, the oil pump can't do it's job and it ends up losing oil pressure and that's it for the motor. A very costly mistake.

Here's and example of an engine we had to replace because of lack of changing the oil. This was a 2007 Dodge Charger with 70,000 miles V-6. The customer brought the car in and said

The summer season is well underway now with a lot of people already enjoying backyard barbecues and days lounging in the sun, some people may even have the urge to make the most of our favourable weather at the moment and drive somewhere on holiday in the UK. There are still plenty of hazards on the road and little maintenance jobs we should keep an eye on whether we do in fact get some decent weather or get the usual summer down pours.

The summer can often bring with it higher temperatures, this may mean if you are unfortunate to be stuck in traffic jams then the heat could make you irritable and drive more aggressively. Try to keep cool by either using your air conditioning or bringing a cold drink along with you to make sure you don't boil over and cause an unnecessary accident.

As well as making sure you have plenty to drink you should check your car's coolant and other liquid levels, many breakdowns in the summer are because the car has overheated and smoke has begun to billow out of the engine bay. Other parts of your car are also prone

There are many things you pick up when learning to drive, many of these things are a part the theory based learning but others are picked up from owning and driving a car.

It is important to learn how to changing a flat or damaged tyre as this can be a complicated process for those who have never had to it before. Like everything, with a bit of instruction and perhaps practice at home, when faced with a flat tyre you should be prepared.

The first thing you need to do it identify which tyre is flat, this is normally fairly obvious from looking at the tyre, it should be bulging from the low air pressure and look flat compared to the others. However if you have trouble you could use a digital tyre pressure gauge to pin point which tyre is losing air.

The second thing you'll need to do is get the required tools, in new cars the tools will most definitely be with the spare tyre or in the boot somewhere. Older or second hand cars may not have these tools as the previous owner may have kept them or lost them.

Ensuring safety of car by installing high quality brakes is essential. There are various braking systems available in the market which can be purchased. Internet is one of the trendiest places to purchase these goods as you can get lot of discounts. Accessories which can increase your car's braking power should be purchased. These accessories will increase the safety level of your car. Installing these accessories will ensure safe driving through out the highway. Installing these gadgets can be costly at one time but the kind of safety is involved it is worth the value.

Use of ABS can be done in wet conditions. ABS or anti braking systems are one of the elite systems which you can install in your car. ABS stops tire locking and slows down the car in short distance. Use of ABS is usually done for racing but high speed cars are installed with ABS these days. ABS is additional equipment which can be installed as they do not come with the brakes. A separate lever is fitted on the brakes where proper pressure is regulated.

Installing cross drilled rotors as brakes can be effective if you have a tope end

While practicing safer driving techniques on the road is a key to road safety, proper care and maintenance of your vehicle also plays a crucial role in getting you safely to your destination. After all, proper maintenance may mean the difference between getting home safely or breaking down in the middle of nowhere. Here are some essential car maintenance tips for keeping you and your car safe and healthy.

Check The Oil

It may seem obvious, but the importance of checking the oil regularly cannot be stressed enough. Checking it and changing it often is probably the single most important thing you can do to keep your car's engine in good condition.

Check Your Lights

This is one of the easier maintenance tasks, as you'll often find someone, hopefully not a policeman, will tell you that one of your tail lights isn't working properly. Having working head and tail lights is absolutely crucial to your safety. Have them fixed as soon as possible whenever one isn't working and avoid driving with one light out, if at all possible.

Check Your Tires

Check the tire pressure, but also the alignment often. Invest in

Car maintenance is usually not one of our favourite activities in life. Most of the time, when using our vehicles, we take for granted that they are in a proper driving condition and sometimes can forget the importance of keeping them well maintained. Vehicles require general and routine maintenance over time and emergency repairs may be needed if you have an accident or if something goes wrong when you're driving. General car maintenance can help to prevent the latter by ensuring that your car is in optimal driving condition at all times. A well maintained car may also mean you're less likely to claim on your car insurance, potentially resulting in lower premiums over time.

Among the general car maintenance tips, getting regular oil changes at the appropriate period of time or usage is at the top of the list of importance. Many people forget when the time comes to get an oil change. Regular oil changes can help ensure that your car runs efficiently and that your engine is well maintained. Old oil or not enough oil in your vehicle can lead to overheating of the engine or other major engine and motor problems that can

Good service history of a car showcases it in a positive light. It also speaks highly about the owner who had taken good care of his car. Auto manufacturers usually provide a user manual, to help car owners in following the maintenance schedule. There are plenty websites, offering car maintenance tips and who have been around for some time in Canada. They provide useful guidance and advice for keeping the car in good shape. They have been instrumental in creating awareness about the importance of car maintenance.

For many years, car manufacturers have applied the concept of 'regular service', for the car maintenance schedule. It has been observed that usage of a car largely determines the maintenance schedule of that particular car. It is just meant give you an outline and should not be followed religiously. Maintenance schedule is a function of car usage and hence will vary from one vehicle to another.. There are websites that provide you useful inputs and tips on car maintenance. Some websites even provide Online organizers to help track your car

The work commute is the most common use for a car and any fuel savings that we generate will translate to a bonus at the end of the month. Saving fuel begins with proper car maintenance first and foremost. Even if you have the best driving techniques in the world, a sloppily maintained car will always consume more fuel over a car in well-maintained condition.

It's no secret that car manufacturers always aim to build the lightest cars possible in spite of all the safety and performance regulations that they have to hurdle. A lighter car always burns less fuel so do like the manufacturers and look in your car and trunk. You may have accumulated some stuff that just rides along with no purpose at all. Store or give them away.

Basic maintenance tips that will save fuel include:

1. Getting an oil change: Following the manufacturer's scheduled oil changes will reduce friction in the engine and make it run more easily.
2. Tire pressures: Tires that are below their recommended pressure present more rolling resistance and friction, forcing the engine to work harder and burn more fuel for a given speed. Keep and

These days most of the people own cars as it is no longer considered as a luxury. Today there are different types of automobiles available quite easily. The gear lever in your car is normally situated to the left of the driving seat in UK cars. It will either be on the floor or on a slightly raised console. There are few cars that will have the gear lever protruding from the instrument panel and even fewer have the lever on the steering column, the main function of the lever is to enable you to change from one gear to another.

The gearbox contains the gears, which control the relationship between engine speed and road speed.

First gear will provide the greatest force at the driving wheel and is almost always the gear that you will select to get the car in motion. As you speed up, you will need to change up in the gears. Each one will give you less gear force but more road speed. The top gear provides you with the least force, but the widest range of speeds.

Most modern cars will have five speeds, but many newer cars or heavier vehicles will have more. As well as the general gears, there will also be a reverse one. When the car is in neutral, no gear will

The main component of a transmission in a car is the gearbox. The gears that are in car gearboxes are made to activate or set in motion when the gearshift or the gear selector is activated. The gearbox in the car will provide the driver with gear reduction from a motor that is in high-speed to a much slower speed, but with a more powerful production system.

The car will propel forward when the gearbox converts the speed of the engine into torque. To give the car the maximum amount of torque and speed it needs, each category of the gears have a corresponding gear designed that works appropriately with the gears.

Most often the gearboxes are designed to increase the torque while also reducing the speed of the drive-shaft of the engine in the car. This happens when the drive-shaft in the gearbox rotates at a much slower speed than the drive-shaft of the engine. Because of the reduction in speed, this will convert the energy produced into speed thrust, and this causes the drive-shaft of the gearbox to rotate producing more power, which leads to increased torque.

When it comes to manual transmissions

Make proper use of gears

Knowing which gear to use and how to change the gears is a fundamental part of learning to drive a manual car. Each and every pupil is taught from a very early stage, not only what the gears are for, but how to change them and make proper use of them. So how could anyone possibly get something so basic wrong on the test?

Answer: Gears are not basic. They can be very complicated, especially when there are other distractions or unexpected happenings. It is in fact very easy to make errors involving gears. 68338 candidates got something wrong with their gears and failed the UK driving test last year!

What follows are just a few examples of the sort of things to go wrong, but the driving test report suggests: "Select the correct gear to match the road and traffic conditions. Change gear in good time but not too soon before a hazard. Do not allow the vehicle to coast by running on in neutral or with the clutch down. There should be no need to look down at the gear lever when changing gear."

Let's start with

Cars are not designed to run indefinitely without periodic car maintenance. If you wait until problems occur, you'll probably end up damaging your car and paying a lot more than if you take care of your car on a regular basis. By doing these simple maintenance tasks, you can expect to get years of service out of your car.

1. Change the oil according to the manufacturer's recommended car maintenance schedule. For most vehicles, this is every 3,750 miles or every three months, whichever comes first. Changing the oil ensures that your engine oil is clean and at the right levels, which helps the engine keep running smoothly.

2. Check the radiator to ensure it is full and have a professional check the level of anti-freeze in your cooling system. If it overheats, this can cause significant damage that you could have avoided with some basic cooling system maintenance.

3. Inspect your car on a regular basis, and take the time to learn what to look for. The gauges can clue you in that there's a problem your mechanic should look at. Repairing a chipped window before it turns into a huge crack is a

It's always nice to have a smooth running and reliable car. However, cars age and will need maintenance over time to keep on running like the day it rolled from the showroom floor. Just putting gas and kicking the tires will not do it. Maintaining a smooth-running car takes care from the owner, and the mechanic or dealer, if you are not mechanically inclined.

All cars have a maintenance schedule set by the manufacturer when they designed the car. Some cars have simple maintenance schedules while other cars need more specialized equipment and parts to keep them in tiptop shape. In general, Japanese cars are cheaper to operate and maintain. However, luxury European brands have a cachet and status all their own. There will be times when budget or work will prevent you from performing needed maintenance. Just follow the maintenance schedule as close as you can because neglecting maintenance may result in a breakdown sometime and emergency repairs are always more expensive than scheduled maintenance. Whatever your choice of car, be aware that there are operating and maintenance costs that are part of owning a vehicle.

With today's modern engines, very little can be done

Winter is one of the hardest seasons to drive in, with all the snow, icy roads, and cold weather. For this reason, you must make sure to have your car ready for winter by doing some basic car maintenance checks. Doing so will help you save money and time as the season turns for the worst. Here are some simple car maintenance tips to help you get through the winter.

1. Tune-up your car

Before you use your car, you must take it to your car service center for a tune-up. A tune-up will help keep your vehicle running longer, and it will also help you save money by detecting and preventing problems.

2. Get the right tires for winter

There are different types of tires available for different driving conditions. When choosing the right tires for winter, you must first consider your needs. The all-season tires are not usually effective during winter where there are lots of snow and icy

The Ford Motor Company recently launched a series of 30-minute podcasts on its Web site created by women especially for women. The idea behind the new series, What Women Want, is to cover the automotive topics that women care about the most, such as safety, technology and Ford car maintenance.

During a recent podcast in the What Women Want series, blogger Becky Harks hosted a 30 minute question and answer session with Ford Motor Company Vehicle Dynamics Development Engineer, Cristina Rodriguez. The two women discussed car maintenance myths and Becky asked Cristina some questions on behalf of her female blog readers. Read on to see what Cristina had to share with Becky and the other women listening in cyberspace.

How can women avoid being ripped off by a mechanic? Because many women are not experts in the field of car maintenance, many of them often feel that they are taken advantage of when they visit their local mechanic, especially if they have their kids with them when they visit the shop. According to the podcast, if women entered the repair shop feeling more confident in their car knowledge they would no longer be easy targets. Cristina
